Into the Great Unknown

Out of the wide open spaces that are our lives – endemic in possibility – comes a shortening. What will we do with it?

Both troubles and opportunities come and go, and besides our slovenly experience, which does slowly reconcile the mood better as we age, we’re still caught off-guard most often it seems. Life is again proving to us too difficult to predict.

And it’s into the great unknown we again go.

Two Great Unknowns

But this is okay. We have another great unknown; one that’s within us. Two great unknowns are known—one external that’s come to us, and one internal that comes from within us to deal with the issues, concerns and stressors at hand.

The internal great unknown is our steadying resilience to contend against whatever the external great unknown brings before us to handle. We all have this great unknown within us.

The Power Within

Both great unknowns are powerful and the inner one is perhaps more so that we often realise. It is enough, for God has said to all of us, “My grace is sufficient for you, for (My) power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9a [NRSV]).

Our key is the faith that the inner will resolve the outer. And not only can it resolve this issue, it will—in faith—even if that is getting us to acceptance (which is no small feat of itself).

That one great unknown will always have the strength to contend with the other. God is ever more with the inner, and subduing the outer, perhaps commensurate to our faith.

When we stop to consider this we quickly realise that with God nothing can totally defeat or condemn us. No, nothing.
